Financial Education Program
Korean and Latino immigrants are facing many barriers to financial information. The goal of financial literacy program is to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services in assisting Korean and Latino immigrants and other residents of Albany Park to access various financial information.
The program’s main activities are:
1. Information Materials Creation, Translation, and Distribution: resource library of materials about finance including information on Banking 101, Investing for Retirement, Mortgage Refinancing, Consumer fraud, Debt Consolidation and How to Fix Bad Credit.
2. Community Education Workshop: 4 community education workshops a year in Korean, Spanish, and English.
The topics include how to buy your own house, small business development, unemployment benefit, and business loans. We invite accountants, bank officers, community-based organizations and local businesses to speak about their programs.
3. Media Roundtables and outreach
We maintain our outreach efforts to inform our community of this program. Media channels to be utilized include free coverage and paid advertising in Korean/ Spanish language media (radio, newspapers, and television). KACS welcome clients referred to us by other programs/organizations.
