HEALTHY ILLINOIS APPLAUDS SENATE PRESIDENT JOHN CULLERTON, SENATE CHIEF SPONSOR IRIS MARTINEZ, SENATE MINORITY LEADER CHRISTINE RADOGNO AND ASSISTANT REPUBLICAN LEADER SYVERSERSON FOR SUPPORTING “Covering All Kids” HB 5736 Passed by the Senate Human Services Committee 6 to 1 with Bi-Partisan Support. HB 5736 moves to the full Illinois Senate for approval. SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS - By a vote of 6 to 1 in Illinois Senate committee, the Illinois Senate continues the bipartisan commitment for commonsense legislation “Covering All Kids” HB 5736. Two weeks ago, Illinois House approved HB5736 with robust bipartisanship 77 to 38. Healthy Illinois thanks “Covering All-Kids Champions Governor Bruce Rauner, House Speaker Michael Madigan, Senate President John Cullerton, chief sponsors Lisa Hernandez and Iris Martinez, minority leaders Christine Radogno, Jim Durkin, Dave Syversonand Patti Bellock for renewing their commitment to quality health coverage for all children regardless of their immigration status. HB 5736 will next be voted by the full Illinois Senate and signed by Governor Rauner.
“Today's passage of HB5736 in the Senate Human Services Committee, extending the Covering All Kids Health Insurance Act, continues Illinois's longstanding and important bi-partisan commitment to protecting the health of children in this state regardless of immigration status. COVERING ALL KIDS WORKS · Covering All Kids has resulted in Illinois having the second highest rate of health coverage for Latino children in the nation – 95.5% · Covering All Kids has resulted in Illinois having one of the highest rates of health coverage for ALL children in the nation - 96.7% · Covering All Kids generates an enhanced Federal match: the program draws down over $40 million federal match that reduces the already modest state cost · In 2006, Covering All Kids was passed with a unanimous bi-partisan vote of 107 to nothing in the IL House, and has since enjoyed the support of both Democratic and Republican Governors · Substantial federal matching funds will be lost or at risk, and children from working poor families, including immigrant children, will lose health coverage on July 1, if Illinois does not continue “Covering All Kids” · SUPPORT HB5736: amending The Covering ALL KIDS Health Insurance Act to extend the sunset date from July 1, 2016 to October 1, 2019 The mission of the Healthy Illinois Campaign is to make quality, affordable health care coverage accessible to all people in Illinois.http://www. ###
