- The NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) re-accreditation will be taking place at the beginning of 2014. NAEYC is a professional organization that promotes excellence in early childhood education. Our early childhood center has been accredited through NAEYC since 2004. Accreditation systems are a major part of NAEYC’s efforts to improve early childhood education and allow programs to provide the best learning experiences for young children and shows that accredited programs meet national standards of quality. This year will be the second renewal for KACS ECC as programs need to be re-accredited every 5 years.
- The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services has informed us that the Head Start Federal Review Team is going to be reviewing all HS programs in the nation. The purpose of the review is to monitor that centers are in complains with all the Head Start Performance Standards. Federal reviews take place every three years and our center is diligently working to prepare for the review that will likely take place in the early months of 2014.
- KACS recently held a retirement party for two members of the ECC staff. Ms. Purita Bael, Starlight teacher, and Ms. Elsa Chavez, social worker, are retiring in January 2014. Both have worked at KACS ECC for over 10 years. We will miss their passion, enthusiasm and friendship. Congratulations on your retirement.
- KACS ECC expansion plan. In 2013 we received an early childhood construction grant through the Capital Development Board for $847, 625. Expansion plans include creating four additional classrooms. Building remodeling will begin in March 2014 and continue through July 2014. We are excited about the expansion plans as we will be able to also update and remodel existing facilities and rooms. We look forward to a clean, bright, more welcoming environment for all of our children, families and staff.
